The earlier ADEI office building, situated in the heart of Chaudi town, now lies in a sorry state of affairs, and there is a possibility of the building crumbling any moment in the event of torrential rains if no action is taken to demolish it.
The roof-tiled building, had served as a primary school post liberation, and was later shifted to another adjacent building, thus paving the way for housing the ADEI office, including the taluka sports inspector office. Just outside the building's verandah in the courtyard lies the Huttatama Smarak, which was built as a mark of remembrance to recognise the contribution rendered by the freedom fighters during the pre-liberation struggle of Goa.
As the building with its near worn-out rafters and other house material including roof tiles posed a danger, the ADEI office was shifted to a vacant space in a government primary school at Char-Rasta, Nargorcem, while the Taluka Sports Inspector's office was relocated in a private residence at Sheller and recently shifted to Karvem Grounds complex at Gaondongrim.
As the place is centrally located, the education department that had assumed possession of the building had reportedly forwarded a proposal to the government to construct a full-fledged office building with conference hall, guest/visitors house, etc, for the department.
The residents are also holding an annual Shardosthav in the same compound, while a primary government school is also in operation just behind this building.
Portuguese-era structure in Chaudi on its last knees
A Portuguese-era primary school and an ADEI office building that was vacated three years ago owing to its dilapidated condition is now in danger of collapsing any time.
