Porvorim Police have arrested 3 persons namely Ronak Kamal Mali, Pawan Hiralal Sharma and Mohit Ladulal Vyas all native of Rajasthan in connection with the IPL cricket betting.
Police Inspector of Porvorim Police station Anant Gaonkar stated that upon getting information from reliable sources that some persons are running an illegal IPL betting business at Pilerne, police conducted a raid at Galaxy Building, Green Valley and arrested three suspects who were found accepting bets through WhatsApp and other messaging apps .They admitted they were running an illegal betting business. During the raid, police have seized 6 mobile phones and a laptop all worth Rs1,50,000. All the suspects were arrested under section 3 and 4 of The Goa Daman and Diu Gambling Act 1976, said Gaonkar.
The raiding team comprised of PI Anant Gaonkar, PSI Sitaram Malik, HC Sandeep Parab and PC Utkarsh Dessai. Further investigation is in progress.
