PANAJI: With the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) beginning the process of finalizing a revised proposal for the Smart City scheme, Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar on Saturday said the city should anticipate other problems in the future.
“This city isn’t a static one, it is dynamic. And with an evolving city, the issues will also change. Today our problems include garbage and traffic. We should anticipate more problems in the future,” he said.
Addressing a press conference in the city, the Panaji MLA also emphasized on the need for sanitation in city announcing plans to install 60 toilets across the city.
With the tourist influx into the state, he said it was only fair for sanitation to take precedence and announced work had already been undertaken in Mala and will continue to Althino.
He also said Porvorim would have to upgrade from the status of a village panchayat to a municipality if it wanted to be included in the plans of the city’s smart plans.
“We are ready to include Porvorim in the area but it needs to be made into a municipality first. You cannot expect city development while at the level of a panchayat,” said Kunkolienkar.
Questioned on whether there would be a conflict since the newly elected council was headed by Babush, Kunkolienkar said the focus was on bettering conditions for the city as a whole and would not hinder its development.
