PORVORIM
Porvorim police have questioned Akash Patil, a friend of Police Sub Inspector Viraj Sawant who has been transferred to the GRP at Altinho, in connection with the misbehaviour with staff at a restaurant at Alto-Porvorim in Socorro.
Porvorim police said they have initiated an enquiry even though the police complaint against PSI Sawant and Patil was later withdrawn.
When contacted, Porvorim Police Inspector Tukaram Chavan said the owner of Rohit Bar and Restaurant had initially filed a complaint alleging that Police Sub Inspector Viraj Sawant and his friend, Akash Patail, had misbehaved with his staff.
“But subsequently, the restaurant owner submitted another letter to the police stating that he wanted to withdraw his complaint. Hence, police did not register an FIR in this case,” said PI Chavan.
“PSI Sawant and Akash had gone to Rohit Bar and Restaurant twice on the same day in the evening. Patil had arguments with the staff of the restaurant over payment of food bill as he felt that they were overcharged. PSI Sawant was seated by the side of Patil but he did not use any abusive language with the staff of the Restaurant.”
“However, PSI Sawant should have stopped Patil from arguing with the restaurant staff,” PI Chavan added.
The police inspector stated that police have initiated the enquiry even after the letter regarding the withdrawal of the complaint has been received.
“Police have interrogated Akash Patil and necessary action will be taken shortly,” said PI Chavan.
