Take the case of Benaulim, where youth leader Warren Alemao and Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz have unveiled plans to enter the electoral fray from Benaulim, the constituency currently represented by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Venzy Viegas.
Both Warren and Dixon are willing to contest the upcoming election on the Congress ticket, provided they are admitted into the party and assured of a nomination. However, the Benaulim Block Congress committee is reportedly vehemently opposed to bringing in a new entrant to contest the election on the party banner. The committee has already pushed the name of Benaulim Zilla Panchayat member Luiza Rodrigues for the ticket.
Whether the Congress will deny the ticket to an existing party ZP member—and a woman—remains to be seen.
That, however, is not the only hurdle. With the AAP-GFP alliance now in place, there appears to be little scope for any of the new entrants to contest from Benaulim on the Goa Forward banner, throwing questions on their future.
