Power shutdown in whole of South Goa on March 27

MARGAO

It’s official. There will be no power supply to the entire South Goa on Sunday, March 27, from 7 am to 3 pm as the power department has planned the Annual Maintenance Shutdown at EHV (Extra High Voltage) substation in South Goa at 220KV Xeldem substation, 220KV Cuncolim sub-station and 110 KV Verna substation on that day.

The whole of Cancona, Salcete, Sanguem, Quepem, Mormugao and part of Dharbandoa - VP Kirlapal-Dabal, Shigao, Collem, Mollem, and part of Ponda taluka - Panchwadi will be affected due to the power shutdown.

Power officials informed that the shutdown is purely for maintenance of EHV interstate lines and substations only, and individual 33/11KV sub-stations will avail shutdown as per their planned schedule at a later date.

The Power department was having second thoughts on going for the shutdown on March 27 due to the Shigmo float parade in Margao on Sunday. Sources, however, said the power department officials reportedly called on Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to discuss the situation after which the department has agreed to deploy a power generator at Zambaulim to meet the power requirements on Sunday.
