Prices of tomatoes, other veggies now show downward trend

Timely arrival of monsoons in the vegetable growing belt of Belagavi taluka has also brought in some good news to citizens, as prices of tomatoes and other vegetables that were soaring higher are gradually showing signs of decline.

Except for prices of French beans and coriander, the prices of leafy vegetables too have come down gradually.

Umesh Patil, a wholesale supplier in the wholesale vegetable market near fort here, said prices of all the vegetables, including tomatoes are expected to come down drastically by next fortnight.

“Thanks to the timely arrival of monsoon this year, prices of vegetables that have shown a downward trend are expected to come down further within a fortnight,” Umesh said showing plenty of optimism.

Sambhaji Hongekar, a leading wholesale onion and potato dealer from the APMC Market Yard in Belagavi, said prices of onion though stable since last week are expected to shoot up with the arrival of monsoon.

Consumers can heave a sigh of relief as there is an overall trend of decline in vegetable prices in wholesale vegetable market here.
