Shiroda, Kavalem to get FPS soon

PONDA: Residents of Sokre-Shiroda and Queula (Kavalem) are expected to get new fair price shops (FPS) in the near future.
The local office of Civil Supplies has received applications to start the business from these areas and the officers have started the inspection process.
In Ponda taluka, 21 FPSs have been shut down and only 12 are operating, making it difficult for public to procure essential supplies.
Speaking to The Goan, an officer from the Civil Supplies said they have received three applications for two FPSs.
“We have received two applications for a FPS in Sokre-Shiroda, while for Kavalem we have received one application. We will conduct the inspection and send the report,” the staff from Civil Supplies office at Ponda said.
A steady drop in FPSs in the taluka had forced authorities to shift ration card holders to those few functioning FPSs in other places. After four FPSs were shut down in Shiroda, the ration cards holders of those FPSs were shifted to a FPS at Shiroda bazaar.
Now, authorities are trying to attract people to pursue this business, to ensure the supply of essential commodities to the public.
The Civil Supplies department had sought applications for Sokre and Kavale FPS. Though the response of applicants has been poor, they are trying to allot the FPS to eligible candidates.
Sources informed that the Civil Supplis department is in the process to seek applications from other places, where FPSs have shut down.
