Agitated with the increasing number of Covid deaths in the State, Panaji MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate trained his guns at Health Minister Vishwajit Rane holding him and his department responsible for the present Covid-19 crisis.

Demanding a CBI inquiry into deaths at GMC, Babush pitched for sacking the health minister.

"Health Minister and his department are totally responsible for rising deaths at GMC. People are dying because of lack of oxygen and other reasons", Monserrate said.

Stating that Covid situation is getting worse, Monserrate raised a demand for CBI inquiry into the functioning of the health department.

“Sad to see Goan families losing their loved ones. There should be a CBI inquiry with regards to the deaths in GMC.

Babush said Health Minister had totally failed and it is high time CM takes over the health portfolio from him.

Claiming that the health minister is running GMC as a private hospital giving priority to people from his constituency, he said there is direct interference of him (health min) in the day-to-day functioning of GMC.

“Recently, a patient from Valpoi was given preference and offered a bed by asking the existing patient (who had occupied the bed) to vacate the bed ", Monserrate claimed.

He said the health department was a total failure as they had not prepared for the second wave in time.

“Despite knowing the danger of the second Covid wave, the health department remained unconcerned and today Goa is at the forefront in the country in terms of disruption and death rate,” Monserrate said.
