Protest brewing over Gaondongrim PE teacher’s transfer to Panaji

CANACONA
The transfer of a Physical Education teacher from the government high school at Gaondongrim to the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DYSA) head office in Panaji has upset parents in the school.

According to a transfer order issued by Dr Ajay R Gaude, Director of Sports & Youth Affairs, on Friday, the PE teacher Yeshwant Gaonkar has been transferred and posted at the Sports Section of DSYA on working arrangement basis with immediate effect.

The same order further states that the salary of the PE teacher shall continue to be drawn from Government High School at Gaondongrim.

According to sources, the transfer of the PE teacher has not been taken lightly by parents of students at the GHS Gaondongrim school, and they have already started a movement against the transfer order.

Sources further informed that the parents are likely to protest at the ADEI Canacona on Monday, demanding the cancellation of the transfer order and the retention of the teacher at the school. The transfer order has also evoked sharp criticism on social media.

Social activist and CMC councillor Shubham Komarpant, while posting the transfer order of the PE teacher on social media, stated, “The teacher who uplifted the school in sports activities, a favourite teacher of all students from ST community and working hard to guide students bringing glory to government high school with many awards is getting transferred to Panaji just because of revenge by a politician well-known for his revenge politics.”
