Public hearing on power tariff hike in Panaji on Mon

The public hearing conducted by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) on the State government’s proposal for a tariff hike is slated to be held on Monday at the Institute Menezes Braganza in the capital city.

The same hearing will also be held in South Goa on Tuesday at the seminar hall of the Mathany Saldanha complex which houses the South Goa Collectorate. 

Issues to be dealt with at the hearing include the Goa electricity department’s petition for approval of the 2022-23 true-up statement, the annual performance review of FY 2023-24, the annual revenue requirement for the 2024-25 fiscal, as also the proposal for hike in tariffs.

The tariff hike proposed to be implemented from April 1, this year includes for the low tension domestic category of consumers where the per unit cost is to be raised thus:  Rs 1.75 to Rs 1.88 for 0-100 units, Rs 2.6 to Rs 2.79 for power consumed between 101-200 units, Rs 3.3 to Rs 3.7 for power consumed between 201-300 units, Rs 4.4 to 4.9 between 301-400 units and Rs 5.1 to Rs 5.8 for above 400 units. 

It has also proposed a hike in energy charges for low tension consumers in the commercial, industrial, hotel industries and agricultural categories as well as for public lighting, hoardings and signboards and also electric vehicle charging station categories.

The total electorate in South Goa after the revision of electoral rolls is pegged around 6.22 lakh voters, around 6,22,383 to be precise, after the enrollment of new voters, around 15,475, as on January 5, 2024.That’s not all.
