PANAJI
All Goa Private Bus Owners’ Association (AGPBOA) has submitted a memorandum to the Police Establishment Board, Director General of Police, Chief Secretary and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar drawing their attention to the alleged delay in registering FIR and failure of Panaji Police in maintaining law and order when the initial sparks flew between the Kadamba Transport Corporation staffers and private bus owners and drivers.
Members of AGPBOA have alleged that Panaji police inspector refused to register an offence against KTC Union leader Sundar Jalmi.
Sudip Tamankar, general secretary of the AGPBOA stated that the situation deteriorated owing to the failure of Panaji Police in taking serious cognizance of the issue by booking an offence against the KTC staff members Jalmi and Baptista, who assaulted a private bus owner Sainath Naik.
Speaking at Panaji, Tamankar said, “The Panaji Police, especially the police inspector, didn’t take action. They registered a non-cognizable offence against the KTC staff member who assaulted a private bus owner. Only after I intervened and explained the legal sections which are attracted in the offence did the police arrest him.”
Tamankar further alleged that the government authorities regularly turn a blind eye to the blatant violations involving KTC staff. “KTC buses are usually overloaded. They ply buses on routes where they do not have permits. Illegal operations of KTC is what creates all these problems,” he stated.
Flanked by six members of the Association, the union leader further sought to declare that the KTC bus terminus in Panaji is owned by the transport department and not the KTC.
