MARGAO
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Nilesh Cabral on late Thursday evening said he is personally monitoring the sewage problem in Margao in view of the overflowing sewage chambers in the city.
While saying that the emergency valve at the STP plant complex at Sirvodem has not been opened as yet, Cabral said he has instructed the officials and staff manning the STP plant to increase the number of sewage treatment cycles to treat the water entering the STP.
The PWD Minister conceded that heavy rain water infiltration coupled with incessant and heavy downpour has aggravated the problem of overflowing sewage chambers.
“I expect the situation to stabilize in the coming days. Since there is heavy infiltration of rain water in the underground Margao sewerage line, there is back flow of the water. One way to address the problem is by increasing the sewage treatment cycles, which has already started at the STP plan”, he said.
When his attention was drawn to overflowing sewage chambers at Nagmodem-Navelim when the line is still not commissioned, the PWD Minister said there is water infiltration in the line since the lines are not connected and the line not yet commissioned.
