Even as the WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar handed out a promise to convene a meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral to discuss the western bypass issue after October 10, the PWD, National Highway is bracing up to resume work on the bypass along the Benaulim stretch.
This became evident when several coconut trees coming along the bypass alignment at Benaulim were felled by the authorities. Sources in the know only informed that with the monsoons almost retreating, the PWD is gearing up to resume work on landfilling the bypass alignment between the Mungul railway bridge right up to the Benaulim-Varca road through the Tolleaband water body.
A senior PWD official informed that the agency is going ahead with the bypass work since there are no instructions to the contrary from the government to halt the work on the project.
