Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar on Wednesday launched the road asphalting work in Bhatlem-Quepem, which is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 70 lakh.
Kavlekar launched the work in the presence of Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) Chairperson Filu D'Costa and other councillors.
The road asphalting work over a stretch of 4.5 kms commenced in Bhatlem ward, represented by Raul Pereira.
Speaking to media persons, Pereira said the asphalting work was assured to the locals last year, but the work was re-tendered due to JICA pipeline work and fluctuation in government rates (GSR).
Kavlekar thanked locals for supporting him and stated that the work will be completed within a few days.
Kavlekar informed that he would also follow up on the old quarters, which are in a dilapidated condition.
“The Golden Jubilee fund allotted by the Congress government during its tenure will be utilised to develop these old quarters in the near future,” he added.
QMC Chairperson Filu D'Costa, Councillor Raul Pereira, PWD engineer and others were present on the occasion.
