Rachol-Shiroda bridge comes in for oppn

Government s move to revive the Rachol-Shiroda bridge proposal came in for strong opposition at the Rachol gram sabha on Sunday, with agitating members resolving to oppose the bridge tooth and nail.At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Joseph Vaz, agitated members sent a message loud and clear to the government that people of the village stand by the numerous resolutions adopted by the previous gram sabhas opposing the proposed bridge.

The members also registered their protest over the statement made by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar during a function held at Shiroda recently and requested the government to desist from bulldozing its way with the proposal.Vaz later told the media that the Rachol panchayat requests the government to build the bridge at some other location. “People of Rachol are not opposed to the bridge, but let it come up at some other location,” he said.Meanwhile, gram sabha members questioned the sarpanch over the failure by the PWD to carry out road and drainage works in the village. They demanded to know why various projects mooted under the Sansad Yojana had failed to see light of the day till date in the village.Members questioned the sarpanch over the delay by the Water Resources Department to take up the five projects under the Sansad Yojana in the village, including the one to build a bundh.

BBSM holds meet on MoI in Curchorem
