The Raia village panchayat on Friday issued a stop-work notice on a cell phone company to halt work on the erection of a mobile tower inside the football ground in a property that belongs to the village Panchayat.
The company, however, completed work on erecting the tower by Friday evening.
In the stop-work notice, the Panchayat has pointed out that it has not given the company any permission to erect the tower in the Panchayat property and neither has the panchayat issued any NOC or licence for erecting the tower under section 66 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act.
Panch member Mario D’Souza informed the media that the panchayat is exploring the possibility to take the company to court next week.
“We plan to file a civil suit against the company for erecting the tower in the Panchayat property without permission”, Mario said, while demanding to know whether the private company can trespass into the playground owned by the Panchayat to erect the tower.
