Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade visited Vasco on Tuesday evening to offer prayers to Lord Damodar on the occasion of the 125th Damodar Saptah festival.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, Vasco BJP Mandal President Deepak Naik and others were present in the temple on the occasion.

Later speaking to reporters, Tanavade supported demands of the MLAs to declare Saptah as a State festival.

"Saptah is the biggest festival of Vascokars. I was in Delhi for a session and returned on Tuesday, after which I came to Vasco to offer prayers and seek blessings of Lord Damodar and to participate in the Saptah festival, which I usually do every year,” said Tanavade.

“The MLAs have already placed a demand that Saptah be granted the status of a State festival. I support their demands because this can be taken as the biggest festival of the Taluka.”

Tanavade added that while the Damodar Saptah lasts for 24 hours, the environment of joy and the religious fervour lasts for over a week in Vasco city due to Saptah.

“The Damodar Saptah also attracts devotees to Vasco not only from different parts of Goa, but also from all over the country as well,” said Tanavade.
