Recent meet with Cong MLAs not related to defection rumours: CM

Amid fresh rumours of rebellion within the Congress with some legislators conspiring to switch over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the government’s good work has been attracting Opposition MLAs.

He however denied that a recent meeting with a handful of Congress legislators was in connection with defection.

“If any MLA comes to meet me, it is for seeking government’s assistance to carry out developmental work in their constituency. Not only ruling but Opposition MLAs too meet me for this purpose,” he said replying to a media

query.

Three Congress MLAs’ visit to Sawant’s ancestral home for Ganesh Chaturthi triggered a debate about a possible defection move. Some have been meeting CM at his official residence.

A day later Michael Lobo flew to Delhi where he reportedly met Home Minister Amit Shah followed by senior Congress MLA Digambar Kamat’s alleged trip to Delhi to meet some senior BJP leaders.

Kamat, however, denied his outstation trip.
