The Urban Development Minister Francis D'Souza on Sunday inaugurated the ‘Development of Open Spaces' at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda under FRANCIS Urban Connect Scheme. The facility is for recreational activity under the Fair Recreational Activity and Non-competitive Involvement in Sports (FRANCIS) Urban Connect
Scheme 2013.
Also present on the occasion was TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, besides Babita Angle e Prabhudessai, chairperson of Margao Muncipal Council; Tito Cardozo, vice-chairperson of MMC; Fr Felix Fernandes, SDB, Provincial Panaji Province, and MCC councillors on Sunday. Speaking at the function organised by Don Bosco College of Engineering, D'Souza said that the government is committed to developing infrastructure for recreational activity across the State.
"The government has many projects for the development of infrastructure but this Recreational Activity will be developed under FRANCIS, which has required area besides the football ground, basketball court, volleyball court, and jogging track,"
D'Souza said.
"If the safe play areas at Don Bosco Engineering are looking resplendent with the large expanse of the lush green field, it is the result of toil by the contractors, M/s SM Realtors and GSUDA (Goa State Urban Development Agency) and its dedicated staff. We are satisfied with the results. I am sure players will have an unforgetable experience playing at these facilities," the Urban Development Minister said. "The GSUDA has spent Rs 3.85 crores on the Don Bosco project and it will provide excellent facilities to the users," D'Souza stated. The projects involves upgradation of existing football ground to FIFA standard (105x68) and specification, indoor facilities for badminton, table tennis with synthetic flooring with properties of shock absorption, abrasion resistance and impact resistance. While the outdoor basketball court has high impact polypropylene synthetic flooring, and movable goal posts for other recreational activities such as futsal.
It will have 12-metre octagonal, galvanized, electrical poles with flood lights to illuminate the football ground along with other electricals fixtures. Site development around the play areas like a walking track, road and paved areas from the entrance of the premises have been carried out. The pavilion block has a seating capacity of 500 with provision for roof covering for 200 seats.
