MARGAO
Asserting that the trust of the public in the Manohar Parrikar government has reached its lowest ebb on the formalin issue, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourneco has demanded a judicial probe into the whole episode to allay the fears and anger amongst Goans and bring the culprits to book.
Referring to the government’s decision to discontinue FDA testing of fish at the borders, Reginaldo said the government has the audacity to state that it is discontinuing formalin test for imported fish at the check post and FDA
will now only conduct random tests.
“Let me reiterate after the fortnight long ban on the import of fish was lifted, FDA tests had zero credibility. In view of public anger,
the government is duty bound to protect the honour of the FDA which behaves like it is not a statutory body,” he
added.
The Congress MLA said that the formalin-laced fish may be responsible for making Goa the new cancer capital of India.
Addressing the media, Reginaldo said there is a dire need for Goemkars to be vigilant and seek more accountability in the entire episode. “I as a vigilant public representative would never let people down on any matter connected with Goa,” he added.
The Congress MLA said the monumental crimes on part of the Parrikar government in condoning the offense of formalin-laced fish continue unabated, saying the latest RTI reveals astonishing findings of the sordid saga of the government which had made an entry through the back door despite the people rejecting the BJP as its seats in the Assembly had nosedived from 21 in 2012 to 13 in 2017.
