MARGAO
In an interesting development, three-time Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco returned from the national capital after meeting Congress president Rahul Gandhi, vowing to sharpen his attack on the government and sink differences with party leaders in the interest of the party and people of Goa.
The Curtorim MLA confirmed that he had an appointment with Congress President on Friday, but declined to comment on what transpired between him and the party president. He, however, hastened to add that the Congress party president was well-versed with the political situation
in the State. “All I can say is that the Congress president is aware of the current political situation in Goa and the role played by each of the Congress leaders in party building”, he said.
Reginaldo, who is one of the contenders for the post of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president, said his visit had nothing to do with the elections for the GPCC post. He, however, said that the party leadership in Delhi is presently preoccupied with the ticket finalization for the election for the prestigious Karnataka legislative Assembly.
What’s interesting to note is that the three-time irrepressible MLA, who had been critical of the party MLAs in the past for their failure to take on the might of the BJP-led coalition government, exuded confidence that party leaders would sink all difference to take on the ruling dispensation. “After my meeting my Rahul Gandhi, I now expect the party leadership in Goa to work unitedly in the interest of the party”, he said, while reiterating that he would remain with the Congress come what may.
And, he disclosed plans to take forward his ongoing work and continue to play his role in exposing the misdeeds of the coalition government. “Rahul Gandhi is aware of who has been leading the tirade against the BJP-led government in Goa. The Congress president has asked me to continue with my work in the interest of the party as well as in the interest of the people of Goa”, Reginaldo said.
Reginaldo’s sudden visit to the national capital might have come as a surprise to many, coming as it does against the backdrop of the party leadership engaged in the appointment of a new Goa Congress president, but the Curtorim MLA pointed out that he had sought an appointment with the Congress president sometime back, which finally materialised on Friday morning.
