MARGAO
Calling for the cancellation of the decision by the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) to obtain Rs 200 crore to reclaim the 38.4 lakh square metres of SEZ land, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday dared Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for a comprehensive debate on the SEZ land on the floor of the House in the next session of the Legislative Assembly.
With his previous two letters to former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on the SEZ receiving no response from the government, Reginaldo has dashed off his third letter on the subject, this time to Parrikar’s successor, saying he and Goemkars in general are perturbed to learn that the GIDC has taken Rs 200 crore loan to pay back SEZ promoters in order to reclaim the 38.4 lakh sq metres of the land.
“I would again like to reiterate that the pro SEZs promoter stand of your government and late Manohar Parrikar’s government is an insult to the land losers who till date have either got peanuts or have not received any compensation for the same,” he said.
Reginaldo said the people of Goa are keen to know how can the government without discussing the vital matter on the floor of the House (Assembly) could reward the promoters of SEZ who
in reality had paid only
Rs 108 crore.
“Goemkars feel GIDC taking loan of Rs 200 crore from the bank is completely uncalled for as paying the SEZ promoters is totally illegal,” he said, while demanding that the government cancel the GIDC’s loan decision and join in a comprehensive debate on the floor of
the House.
