CANACONA: A team from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on Monday inspected tourism structures at the Galgibaga turtle nesting site, with GCZMA member Secretary Ravi Jha seeking a report from forest (wildlife) officials regarding the demolition of illegal structures.
According to reports, the inspecting team led by Jha visited the Galgibaga shoreline, the second turtle reserved beach in Canacona taluka, where forest department (wildlife) had acquired land to set up of a Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.
The team inspected a number of tourism-related constructions, some of which are concrete constructions, while a few others are temporary wooden structures.
The team noticed that some tourism structures had been set up on government land, while others had sprung up in private properties close to reserved beach shore.
Jha has reportedly issued directives to the Forest (Wildlife) DCF Sanjay Waradkar to submit a report on illegal structures, so that necessary demolition orders are issued to the parties concerned.
According to sources, many have already dismantled their structures as the tourism season had come to an end.
Those present during the inspection included GCZMA Expert Member Dr Prabhakar Shirodkar, a surveyor, Canacona Dy Collector Sagun Velip, Canacona Mamlatdar Raghuraj Phaldessai, Talathis, Forest (Wildlife) DCZF Sanjay Waradkar, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary RFO Vikramaditya, other forest officers and a police team.
