Reis Magos proposes budget of Rs 1.83 crore
To begin door-to-door waste collection from April 1

The Reis Magos Panchayat has prepared budget estimates for the year 2016-17 and has also decided to collect garbage on a door-to-door basis from April 1.
In the Rs 1.83 crore proposed budget, the panchayat has shown grants from the government as Rs 51.25 lakh, of which Octroi is Rs 20 lakh, matching grants (Rs 4.25 lakh), RDA grant (Rs 4.50 lakh) and garbage grants (Rs 1 lakh).
Income for the year 2016-17 by way of taxes has been projected at Rs 25.75 lakh, which comprises house tax to the tune of Rs 14 lakh, professional tax (Rs 1 lakh), signboard/hoarding tax (Rs 75,000) and garbage tax (Rs 10 lakh). Income through fees has been estimated to be Rs 30.21 lakh, which includes construction license fees of Rs 25 lakh, sanitation fees (Rs 2 lakh) and house tax transfer fees (Rs 80,000).
On the expenditure front, amount of Rs 86.85 lakh has been earmarked for public works, which includes construction of drains and roads, street lights, purchase of electrical materials, beautification works, etc.
Administration expenses has been shown as Rs 30.16 lakh. For sanitary and public health and family welfare, a provision of Rs 19.95 lakh has been made in the budget, of which Rs 11 lakh is for disposal of garbage and Rs 5 lakh for purchase of garbage bins. An amount of Rs 3.35 lakh has been earmarked for social work, of which Rs 1.50 lakh is for sports clubs.
Speaking to The Goan, Reis Magos Sarpanch Kedar Naik said the panchayat has decided to collect garbage on door-to-door basis from April 1.
“Garbage fees to the extent of house tax will be charged for every household. In regard to commercial establishments, garbage fees will be levied based on the type of business establishment and area of operation. Each household will be given small garbage bins to keep wet and dry waste separately,” said Naik.
