Release of book on alcoholism
PANAJI: Freelance journalist Maria Viency Cardozo of Raia, Salcete,will release her book 'Diamonds Under My Feet,' on May 28, at 4.45 pm, at the Ravindra Bhavan Margao. The book focuses on stories of families that have been battling alcoholism both in Goa and elsewhere.
Alcoholism not only affects persons suffering from it, but throws entire families off guard - socially, emotionally and financially. But the good news is that families are fighting back and 'living again', says the book.
Cardozo says there is a need for new understandings into both the life of an alcoholic and "his (or, occasionally, her) family." The 144-page book takes the story to Raia, Morjim, Fatorda, Miramar, Gogol, Campal, Porvorim, Nuvem, Mangalore, Lucknow, Loutolim, Shiroda, Rawanfond, Bangalore and elsewhere.
The book also touches the 'Twelve Step' programme for recovery from addiction, compulsion or behavioural problems.
