Citizens visiting government offices in the Osia Commercial complex at the SGPDA complex may have something to cheer about, finally.

The lift in the building housing the SGDPA, TCP, besides other government offices has been finally repaired and made functional.  Since the last two days, citizens could make it to the SGPDA and TCP offices in the high rise building by taking the lift.

Inquiries have only revealed that the SGPDA has repaired the lift in the commercial building by replacing a equipment costing around Rs 50,000. The agency which was looking after the upkeep and maintenance of the lift has been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the lift for the next six months.

When contacted, SGPDA Chairman Krishna Daji Salkar told The Goan that the  SGPDA has repaired the lift at its own cost after taking cognizance of the hardships and inconveniences faced by the citizens. While saying the lift repaired by the PDA is a stop gap arrangement, Salkar said a brand new lift costing around Rs 15 lakh will be installed in the building in the next six months.

He said that representatives of government buildings functioning in the Osia commercial complex have all agreed to chip in funds to procure a brand new lift to replace the ageing lift.

“Officials of the government departments had a  meeting with the Chief Secretary where it was agreed upon that the departments operating in the Osia building will contribute  funds to purchase a brand new lift.  It will take around six months to complete the procedure. In the meantime, the  existing lift repaired by the SGDPA should take care of the members of the public for the next six  months”, he asid.

The  non-functioning lift in the Osia building housing the SGDPA, TCP and other government offices had caused tremendous hardships to citizens, including the elderly, who had to walk all the way to these offices in the high rise building.
