Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have congratulated Goa government on the reopening of the historic Shree Saptakoteshwar Temple after renovation and said it will deepen the youth’s connection with spiritual traditions and boost tourism in the state.
Their congratulatory tweet on Saturday came in after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the refurbished temple at Narve.
“The renovated Shree Saptakoteshwar Devasthan, Narve, Bicholim will deepen the connection of our youth with our spiritual traditions. It will also further boost tourism in Goa,” the PM tweeted.
Shah’s tweet thereafter followed stating, “Congratulations to the Goa government on the reopening of the historic Shree Saptakoteshwar Temple after renovation. After being attacked by multiple invaders, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj rebuilt the temple. As a major pilgrimage site, it will draw tourists from all over India.”
Sawant responded to the PM’s tweet claiming that the government is making efforts to promote spiritual tourism through such an initiative. “With your continued support Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji, in this #AmritKaal Goa is working towards promoting and developing cultural and spiritual sites to further boost the tourism in the state,” the CM posted.
The history of the Saptakoteshwar temple is 350 years old and is located in Narve village. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renovated this temple three centuries ago but the Portuguese damaged it.
The CM has announced rebuilding Saptakoteshwar Temple at Divar island and creating a memorial for 1,000 temples that were destroyed by the Portuguese.
