Doubts have been raised on repairs of Gulem-Dramapur stretch of the NH66 highway, after activists noticed patchwork at many places.
Sources have, however, stated that the dilapidated Gulem-Dramapur NH66 section, where repair works began on Tuesday, will undergo repairs in two phases.
Repair works which were launched on Tuesday were found to be only a patchwork on the left side of the road towards Margao at 10 different places (in Gulem up to the foot of Karmalghat), the longest patch being that of about 150 metres in length on the slope near Bhumipurush temple at Gulem.
“With the first coat of hot-mixing, the uneven road is being levelled first and then, the second coat of hot-mix carpet will be carried out,” informed sources.
When contacted, Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, who was in the forefront in pushing for the repairs of the Polem-Dramapur NH66 stretch, said he had demanded the levelling of the road before taking up work to hot-mix the dilapidated stretch of the highway.
Bhandari, who along with Goa Youth President Varad Mardolkar is in Bangalore to attend Youth Congress Padhyatra, told The Goan he is keeping a close watch on the road repairs works.
“The repair works resumed late Wednesday afternoon and workers have carried out more patch works to level the uneven road at the Karmalghat section,” said Bhandari.
