Replacing MLA is one-time solution for issues in Vasco:Salkar

Replacing MLA is one-time solution for issues in Vasco:Salkar

VASCO

Former MPDA chairman Krishna Salkar has said replacing the MLA would be a one-time permanent solution to many issues plaguing Vasco city.

Salkar was speaking to reporters after he along with councillors Girish Borker, Shami Salkar, supporters and residents submitted a memorandum to the PWD office in Baina on Thursday regarding water supply issues.

"There is water shortage in different parts of Vasco for many years and we want to know how the PWD will manage water supply during Ganesh Chaturthi.”

“Except for Vasco, all other constituencies in Mormugao taluka have reservoirs, overhead tanks and booster pumps. There is a proposal to replace the water pipelines of Vasco but it has been pending for seven years. I feel replacing the MLA will be a permanent and one-time solution to all issues of Vasco," said Salkar.

Salkar said Almeida should have been following up on pending proposals and projects with the government.

“We welcome the government's offer of 16,000 litres of water for free, but if pipelines are not replaced, water will not reach houses. The reservoir of Vasco never gets filled and women have to get up as early as 3 am to fill water.”

“We have now requested PWD officials to give us the pending proposals so that we can take a delegation to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD minister to get the project activated," said Salkar.

PWD Assistant Engineer Naresh Painginkar said he would take up the issue at the earliest.

"Sometimes, we face water shortage directly from Selaulim and supply is fluctuated. The proposal to replace pipelines is pending approvals and procedures. The old network has to be changed and the issue will be resolved.”

“Though Vasco is getting sufficient water, we cannot put additional pressure for water supply to high-rise buildings because our old pipelines can burst," said Painginkar.
