Report traffic violations under Traffic Sentinel Scheme, crack a cash reward

PANAJI: Goa Traffic Police on Friday launched the innovative community policing initiative, "Traffic Sentinel Scheme", to rope in general public in enhancing traffic management on Goan roads.

Under this scheme, any person can report traffic violation by capturing the photo or video of the defaulting vehicle on their smartphone with GPS location switched on and send it through Whatsapp to the Traffic Police on 7875756110, email on [email protected] or send it to the Facebook page of Goa Traffic Police.
Unveiling the scheme, Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander said," This scheme is borrowed from a similar initiate started in Delhi. We are hoping that it will succeed in Goa. The idea is to ensure that more traffic violations are prosecuted while promoting traffic discipline among those who report violations to the police."
According to the reports received by the police, predefined reward points will be credited in the account of the ‘traffic sentinel'. Once the traffic sentinel accumulates 100 points s/he will be given cash reward of Rs 1,000. The police department is also planning to organize a bumper draw for all top traffic sentinels with a motorcycle as the prize.
It was informed that a citizen has to register by providing his name, mobile number and email ID on WhatsApp Number 7875756110. The mobile number will be treated as a unique ID. Thereafter, they can start reporting traffic violations by mentioning this unique ID.
As per the details available on the Goa Police website, court may require the traffic sentinel to testify before it for the violation reported.
