The Congress party adopted a host of resolutions at the Lohia Maidan, Margao on the occasion of Opinion Poll day, including a resolution to fight against the ill conceived laws that are being enacted to sell agricultural land, rivers, forests, hills, orchard lands, etc and save whatever remains for the future generations.
The resolutions read out by party leader Capt Viriato Fernandes has further resolved to fight against the three linear projects meant to convert Goa into a coal hub, saying the coal transportation will destroy the fragile eco system and adversely affect the health of the people, the ecology and the tourism sector.
While resolving to fight to protect river Mhadei at any cost as it is the lifeline of Goa, the resolution resolved to ensure employment for the youth of Goa and fight against and expose the “Cash for Jobs” scam prevalent in the system under the BJP govt.
It was further resolved that the poor law and order situation in the state is leading to atrocities being committed on the innocent people of Goa, specially the women, girl child and weaker sections.
Reminding that it was the Congress party that amended the Indian Citizenship Act 1955 and offered OCI to NRIs, the Congress Party reiterated that it will protect the interests and rights of NRI brothers and sisters as far as OCI is concerned.
“We will pursue the matter of dual citizenship to ensure that Goenkars born prior to 1961 and their descendants are eligible for dual citizenship, the resolution added.
Asserting the party would ensure that the Dabolim airport is not allowed to be closed down and ensure that the livelihood of the people dependent on the airport servives, viz, taxi drivers, motor cycle pilots, fast food operators, etc is protected, the Congress further resolved to fight for the reservation for the Schedule Tribe community in the Goa assembly.
