MAPUSA
In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) initiated the registration of all women vendors who are natives of Goa in the Mapusa market under its newly formed ‘Fulrani’ Goa Association on Friday.
Manoj Parab, President of the RGP, underscored the necessity of registering women vendors under a unified platform, citing the neglect they face from both the government and the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).
“The plight of these women vendors is disheartening. Some have been conducting business for decades, yet they receive minimal support or attention from authorities. There is no provision for shelters or plans to enhance their businesses. Additionally, they often face harassment from migrant vendors and municipal inspectors,” remarked Parab.
He announced plans to extend registration to women vendors in other markets across Goa, including Margao, Bicholim, Mayem, and other areas. Furthermore, Parab emphasised the inclusion of roadside vendors under the Fullrani association.
The RGP aims to advocate for justice for these women and address the lack of cohesion among them.
“Currently, there is a lack of unity among the vendors, with separate groups for flower sellers, rice vendors, and fish vendors. Our objective is to foster unity and prevent migrant vendors from encroaching upon the businesses of Goan women,” Parab asserted.
