RGP suspension row: Kholkar questions Borkar’s authority, says legal opinion will be sought

RGP suspension row: Kholkar questions Borkar’s authority, says legal opinion will be sought

PANAJI: Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) Treasurer Ajay Kholkar, who was allegedly suspended by RGP MLA Viresh Borkar from the party, has questioned the validity of the suspension order, claiming it was signed by Borkar as "National President", a post that, according to him, is not recognised under the party constitution.

This morning, Borkar announced the dissolution of all state, district, block, taluka, ward and other organisational committees, suspended Kholkar and General Secretary Vishvesh Naik and directed that fresh executive elections be held within 45 days.

Kholkar said he would seek legal opinion on the matter and alleged that the move was an attempt to take control of the party.

“We are exploring this legally. How can someone suddenly claim the post of National President after four-and-a-half years?” Kholkar said.

Questioning the decision-making process, he said, “A single individual cannot make decisions overnight without discussing with other party members. He needs to explain how and why this decision was taken.”

Kholkar also questioned the use of the party letterhead and the manner in which the order was circulated.

“The media called us in the morning asking what happened. We came to know about it through them. Everything happened overnight,” he said.

He maintained that he continued to remain the party treasurer and said the matter should be decided by the party’s disciplinary committee.

“I am still in office as Treasurer. Let the CEC or disciplinary committee take a decision. Viresh has not given any explanation. He has to explain how and why he did this,” Kholkar said.

Questioning the demand for party documents after the organisational changes, Kholkar said, “Once someone claims to have taken over the party, it is strange that they themselves need to ask for party documents.”

He said party workers remained committed to RGP and that internal discussions were underway.

“We are with the party. The party is one and united, and preparations for elections are underway. We will make our decision through the proper committees and reply accordingly,” he said.
