Rickshaw driver arrested for fatal mishap

BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police arrested the rickshaw driver from Zariwada-Padocem, Sattari, on charges of knocking down a 26-year-old scooterist from Atil Peth, Bicholim, leading to his death on Monday afternoon.

The accused driver, Imran Shaikh, was later released on bail by JMFC Bicholim. The condition of the two youth, Nikhil Dixit and Samaresh Kanekar, who were also injured in the accident was said to be improving.

It may be recalled that Gaurish Dangi died, while his two friends Nikhil (32) and Samaresh (28), were seriously injured after the two scooters in which they were travelling were knocked down by the rickshaw (GA-03-N-3212) driven by Imran Shaikh at Bordem-Bicholim.

The police booked the accused rickshaw driver under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A of IPC and he was arrested late Monday evening.

The final rites of the deceased were held at the Pajwada-Bicholim crematorium on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the final rites of Mahadev Salkar from New Wada Pilgao, who committed suicide by hanging himself from a mango tree at his cousin’s place at Karapur-Bicholim were also held at the local crematorium on Tuesday.
