A 40-year-old rider from Dabolim lost his life after his scooter fell into an excavated pit near Vales junction at Dabolim on Wednesday night.
According to sources, the mishap occurred around 10 pm when Maruti Jadhav, who was riding a scooter, accidentally fell into a pit dug up for the ongoing Dabolim flyover construction work.
Eyewitnesses said Jadhav sustained serious injuries in the fall. He was rescued from the pit and rushed to the Chicalim Sub-District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
The Vasco police reached the site upon receiving information and have launched an investigation into the incident.
