SANGUEM
A rift among BJP-backed councillors was exposed at the Sanguem Municipal Council when seven of the 10 councillors moved a no-confidence motion against Vice Chairperson Sangameshwar Naik.
The aggrieved councillors accused Naik of failing to effectively discharge the duties entrusted to him and causing the council to suffer due to his style of functioning.
The signatories to the motion include three opposition councillors as well as members from the ruling group supported by the BJP, indicating a significant internal rift within the council. Those who have signed the motion are Fouziya Shaikh, Romualdo Fernandes, Messiah Dacosta, Queroz Cruz, Pritee Naik, Shweta S. Naik Tari, and Archana Gaonkar.
Soon after the motion was moved before the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA), efforts were reportedly initiated by BJP party leaders to resolve the issue internally and avert further escalation.
However, sources indicate that the signatories remain firm in their decision to proceed with the motion.
