The Congress party, which has strong reservations on entering into alliances with regional and other players, may have to contend with the Laloo factor. For, RJD leaders pointed out that while the party will contest most of the seats for the Goa Assembly. Party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav will take a call on the alliance issue on the lines of the grand Bihar alliance which romped home to victory in last year’s Assembly poll.
Led by RJD National general Secretary, S M Quamar Alam, the party leaders made it abundantly clear that the party is not just setting up shop in the state with an eye on the coming Assembly election, but have come to the state in the land of sun, sand and tourism.
Addressing the media, Alam said that RJD will fight the battle for the downtrodden, Muslims and minorities and the oppressed sections of the society in Goa.
“Lalu has won the battle in Bihar and has now set his eyes on Delhi and other states, including Goa. The RJD will work for the people of Goa. We are confident that Goans will support Lalu Yadav’s RJD,” he said.
Alam slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his failure to achieve even five per cent of the promises made during the Lok Sabha poll, accusing the NDA for its utter failure to full the promises.
On the party’s agenda in Goa, Alam said the party will go to the nook and corner of the state with an agenda to strengthen the organization. “Right now, I can say with confidence that RJD will contest the 2017 Assembly election in Goa. The question of entering into alliance with other political parties will be decided by Laloo Prasad,”
he said. When asked whether the RJD will set up shop in the state with an eye on the Assembly election and wind up its operations post election, Alam shot back saying, “The RJD has come to stay in Goa and play a long
political innings.”
The Goa unit of the RJD will be headed by Hammad Kadar.
