Residents of Ambeaxir, Sernabatim, in Colva panchayat are up in arms against the reckless digging of the interior road by a cellular company to lay underground cables.
They claimed that the trench drilled by the company poses danger, not only to motorists, but to the children riding cycles on the road.
Addressing the media, Elvis Vaz informed that the road has been dug up by the private company without any layout plan or permissions from the local body. “The residents had stopped the illegal road cutting. Since then, the company personnel has just disappeared without restoring the dug up road,” Elvis told the media.
He said these private companies should take permission from the authorities concerned after submitting a plan. Urging the district and panchayat authorities to intervene and get the company restore the damaged road, Elvis said that application made to the local MLA and the panchayat body has not received any response till date. “Parents have stopped sending their children with cycles on the road for fear of getting injured after falling,” he said.
Another resident Gennie Vaz wondered why the authorities have turned a blind eye to the installation of a mobile tower right on a sand dune at Sernabatim.
“Has the private cellular company obtained the CRZ permission to install the tower?” he demanded to know, while seeking action.
