Work on the long-pending road under bridge near the Seraulim railway crossing is finally expected to commence later this month, with the Railways promising to mobilize machinery by December 22.
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao along with Seraulim Sarpanch Leslie Dourado, panchayat members, officials of the Railways and PWD inspected the place where the road under bridge has been sanctioned by the government.
The Benaulim MLA had an interaction with a local resident and sought his cooperation in making available his land for the dumping of construction material.
After the meeting, Churchill told the media that the road under bridge work will finally commence from December 22 this year. “After I got the sanction for the long-pending project, the government has already deposited the funds for the execution of the project,” he said, adding that the issue of space to store and dump material near the site has been resolved.
“At election time, I had promised the people of Seraulim that if elected I will try to solve the problem at the level crossing which brings traffic to a halt due to the frequent running of trains. I am happy that we have reached the stage when work will commence soon,” he said.
While allaying apprehensions that the road under bridge may result in water logging during the monsoon, Churchill said “compared to Comba, the site at Seraulim is on a higher side and will not result in water logging”.
