The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has initiated a comprehensive ambient air quality monitoring project spanning two years, from November 2023 to October 2025, with a budget of Rs 11.30 crore.
With an objective to conduct ambient air quality monitoring, including sampling, analysis, and reporting at 39 designated locations pan-Goa, the Board published a tender inviting bids from well-established environmental laboratories for this project, utilizing a two-bid system encompassing technical and financial aspects.
“Conducting ambient air quality monitoring sampling analysis and reporting at 39 locations in Goa for a period of 2 years starting from November 2023 to October 2025,” it said adding that the monitoring will involve assessment of various parameters, including PM2.5, PM10, SO2 and NO2 samples and also by measuring temperature, rainfall, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity and solar radiation.
While the bid submissions have already started, the Board has slated the bid opening date for October 12 at its office in Saligao.
The GSPCB's annual study report 2022-23 released just last month said Goa’s industrial estates, mining belt and capital city Panaji are most polluted areas with the Particulate Matter 10 (PM10) concentration level.
The count is much above the safe limit of 60 microgram per cubic meter (pg/m3) even though the report mentioned that the pollution level at these places is considered as “satisfactory”.
