Rs 12 cr hot-mixing of NH66 from Polem to Gulem: Dy Speaker

CANACONA
Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes has said that a Rs 12 crore project to hotmix the NH66 highway between Polem and Gulem via Poinguinim and Shristhal will begin on Monday.

Addressing a news conference at Canacona on Saturday, Fernandes said the hotmixing work would be launched by PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar at the Polem border check post.

Fernandes said Pauskar, who will be accompanied by PWD officials, will attend to queries from the public at a brief function in the Loliem-Polem panchayat hall. He appealed to people to attend the event and to interact with the minister and officials on issues pertaining to roads and water supply.

“This hotmixed stretch of the highway will be a great relief to people of Canacona taluka. Several mishaps and traffic jams were major concerns for many years and these issues were resolved when the Manohar Parrikar Bypass was inaugurated.”

“However though the Canacona bypass has been made operational, the existing stretch of NH66 between Polem and Gulem via Poinguinim and Shristhal still exists as a national highway. We can get maximum development on this stretch as a highway and the Rs 12 crore project to hotmix the road is one of the benefits.”

The deputy speaker also informed that the Ordhofond bridge will be repaired at Rs 1.8 crore, while the Maxem bridge in Loliem will also be repaired at Rs 2 crore.

“The renovation of these bridges has already been approved, but the work is likely to be executed within a few months,” said Fernandes.

Fernandes told reporters that he had made his manifesto as a Congress MLA, but has been executing projects listed on his manifesto as a BJP MLA.

“All works I had mentioned in my manifesto are being fulfilled in my constituency,” said Fernandes.
