MARGAO
As Chief Minister Pramod Sawant descended on the Navelim Zilla Panchayat by-poll battle as part of the ruling party’s determined bid to wrest the seat in the March 20 polls, he dared anyone to point out a single instance wherein his government has discriminated against religious communities during his two-year stint in office.
Accompanied by party candidate Satyavijay Naik and workers, the Chief Minister first descended on Sinquetim-Nagmodem in Navelim village, where he had an interaction with the local residents, which was attended by former MLA Avertano Furtado, George Barretto and others.
With Christians forming majority voters in Navelim constituency, the Chief Minister sought to woo the community, saying his government has never discriminated against any community or constituency in the last two years. “Show me a single instance where my government in the last two years has discriminated against any religion or constituency,” he said, while making a fervent plea to the voters of Navelim to vote for the BJP candidate.
Reminding that the BJP is already heading the South Goa Zilla Panchayat, the Chief Minister said that getting Satyavijay elected as their ZP representative will only help the people to get their works done faster.
Referring to the demands put forth by local resident George Barretto, including the request to keep the Sinquetim-Benaulim bridge on hold as that would result in the demolition of 300 houses, the Chief Minister reassured that he will never allow a single house to be demolished whether to build a bridge or road.
Sawant also assured the people that he has already taken a decision to increase the height of the Western bypass bridge on the Sinquetim road.
In his brief address, former MLA Avertano Furtado thanked the Chief Minister for taking up many development projects in Sinquetim and Navelim, even as he assured the very best to the BJP candidate Satyavijay Naik in the by-poll.
Satyavijay assured the people of Sinquetim and Navelim constituency that he would not leave a single stone unturned to serve them if elected to the South Goa Zilla Panchayat.
