With its treatment of about 70% of garbage in Pune Municipal Corporation jurisdiction and having recently bagged the contract to set up a new plant to clear around 1.3 lakh tonnes of legacy waste at the garbage dumping site at Sada-Vasco, Bhoomi Green Energy Pvt Ltd (BGEPL) is confident that the waste treated would have multiple uses.
A team of councillors from Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) along with a group of journalists from Mormugao recently visited three Solid Waste Treatment Plants (SWTPs) operated by BGEPL in Pune, which has been treating around 70% of garbage from the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal corporation.
MMC Councillors Murari Bandekar, Leo Rodrigues and Damodar Kaskar along with the journalists visited the plant to get first-hand idea about BGEPL’s operations using biomining technology, after BGEPL was awarded a contract to set up a new plant to clear around 1.3 lakh tonnes of legacy waste from the garbage dumping site at Sada.
BGEPL Director Vijay Tilekar, who took the councillors and journalists for a site visit to all the SWTPs in different locations of Pune municipal area, informed the delegation that the company treats around 250 metric tonnes of the mixed waste on a daily basis with the use of biomining technology.
“Every plant is neat and clean and there is no foul smell anywhere around the plant nor are there any rodents, dogs or birds found anywhere close to the garbage that is being cleared,” explained Tilekar.
“Every plant will clear garbage and the end output of the treated garbage will be organic manure, which is given to farmers for agricultural activities.”
“The wet waste treatment plant makes high quality compost certified by guidelines of the Fertilizer Control Board, while the rejected waste is being used for scientific land filling. The second plant treating dry waste generates Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) and compost as end products,” he said. Tilekar added that the compost generated was checked by government agencies before being given to farmers, while 3000 Calorific Value is being maintained for RDF so that a buyer can use it for various uses like factories, boiler factories, power generation, etc.
