Residents of Sadolxem-Poinguinim have demanded police night patrolling to tackle nuisance by anti-socials elements in the locality and by tourists on the bridge.

In a memorandum submitted to Canacona Mamlatdar Gajesh P Shirodkar in the absence of Dy Collector Prataprao Naik Gaonkar on account of the ongoing assembly, the residents claimed that unknown persons have been roaming at night for the past several days, and even entering compounds, causing fear and insecurity among residents, especially the elderly.

“In recent times, at least five residents captured CCTV footage of movement of two-wheelers, persons entering their compounds and switching on lights, between 2-4 am,” stated the memorandum.

“We have informed and even lodged a complaint with police, but nothing has been done as yet. We have also demanded proper night patrolling of our area, and even that has not been adhered to.”

The residents have also sought police presence to stop disturbance routinely created by tourists on Sadolxem bridge.

They claimed that large groups of tourists block the Sadolxem bridge each day to make reels and photo-shoots, causing hardship to villagers commuting on either side.

“Locals face rude and abusive behaviour from these tourists when requested not to obstruct public movement,” states the memorandum.

Later while addressing the media outside the Dy Collectorate office in Canacona, residents stated this bridge is narrow and only one vehicle (LMV) or 2-wheeler can cross/pass a time.

“Despite this, tourists park their vehicles in the middle or on either side of this bridge, take selfies, photographs, inconveniencing other motorists and abuse residents whenever questioned for obstructing the bridge,” complained a resident.

“Our demand and request to police are falling on deaf ears, so we came to meet the Dy Collector to give necessary instruction to the police to place personnel at Sadolxem bridge and most importantly, to regularly depute personnel for night patrolling in our area to stop the unwanted late night intrusions of unknown anti-socials roaming in the village.
