Frequent power disruptions, erratic power supply and load shedding have angered the locals of Saligao village, with many of them confronting the electricity department officials at a meeting on Saturday to address concerns regarding power supply to the village.
This meeting witnessed heated arguments between the locals and the electricity department officials, with the locals bitterly complaining about the poor power supply to the village.
Responding to criticism, Electricity Department Junior Engineer Bento Barreto explained that the existing substation at Saligao has six feeders.
“When the load on 33 KV line coming from Porvorim increases, one feeder is closed down and this way, all six feeders are closed down in rotation for half an hour.”
“The power-shedding problem started from March due to an increase in power consumption. This problem will be solved when the underground cable from Povorim to Saligao is laid,” said Junior Engineer Baretto.
Assistant Engineer Anil Kumar, Assistant Engineer A K Chandran, Junior Engineer Bento Barreto and Junior Engineer Sandeep Salgaonkar were present at the special meeting.
Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes also spoke at the
meeting.
