The Mayem Bhuvimochan Nagarik Kruti Samiti (MBNKS) has demanded a solution to the land issue in Mayem by August 15, failing which they have threatened to intensify the agitation.
MBNKS had convened a public meeting at Gaonkarwada-Mayem on Sunday evening to decide the future course of action.
Speaking at the meeting, senior freedom fighter Nagesh Karamali asked the government to take possession of government land from those occupying it by June 18 and hand over Sanads of the houses to the people by August 15, to finalise the issue of government (earlier custodian) property of Mayem.
Karamali threatened to launch an intense agitation against the State government if the issue was not solved by the deadline set.
He further demanded with the government to give full status to Mayem villagers by giving ownership of houses and land to them. “It is possible by carrying out amendments in the new act framed on March 7, 2014. The Act made by the government to solve the issue is tricky, due to which it is not possible to get entire ownership of houses and surrounding land to the villagers.”
Speaking at the meeting, MBNKS president Kashinath Mayekar said the local representative didn't pay proper attention when the Act was drafted and as such there are several loopholes in the new Act.
He accused BJP and the Mayem MLA for not taking the MBNKS members into confidence when the Act was being framed.
Mayekar also demanded with the government to hand Sanads of houses to the people by August 15, failing which he threatened to go on an indefinite intense agitation.
Freedom fighter Chandrakant Pednekar said Mayem property belongs to Mayem villagers and it should be returned back to them without any delay.
Yeshwant Karbhatkar said the government should pay serious attention to solve the issue as early as possible.
Kalidas Kavlekar said the government should appoint a special cell to solve 1900 cases of Kul-Mundkar as early as possible that are pending at the collector's court.
Narayan Narvekar called upon the people to submit forms by May 15, which is last date to submit forms.
Yeshwant Karbhatkar and Tulshidas Chodankar also spoke at the meeting.
Secretary Sakharam Pednekar, vice president Yeshwant Karbhatkar, former Mayem sarpanch Tulshidas Chodankar, Kalidas Kavlekar, Chandrakant Golatkar and Narayan Narvekar were present for the meeting.
