At a time when parts of the State have been hit by acute water shortage, water is being wasted in huge quantities from the irrigation canal pipeline at Paroda.
Gudi-Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate has stated that Irrigation department should take immediate cognisance of the matter and stop wastage of water.
For over a month, the irrigation canal pipeline has developed leakages at Paroda and water is presently gushing out of the canal pipeline at Paroda, which is just 200 metres from the Panchayat Ghar.
When contacted, Gudi-Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate said water is getting wasted due to leakage in irrigation canal pipeline at Paroda for over a month.
“People are worried about water scarcity, while a huge amount of water is getting wasted over here,” he added.
“Despite intimating the Irrigation department officials, no one has turned up to stop the water wastage and carry out repair works,” he said.
Paroda Panch Dilip Gaonkar said the irrigation canal was very old and in need of major repairs.
“The canal is located close to the main road and the vibration of moving vehicles has made the canal pipeline more vulnerable to damage,” he said.
“I feel the Irrigation department officials should attend to the problem without wasting time,” he added.
