The Sancoale and Bogmalo panchayats got new deputy sarpanchas on Thursday.

At Sancoale, Succorina Vales was elected unopposed and her election has strengthened the hold of Minister Mauvin Godinho on Sancoale Panchayat in neighbouring Cortalim constituency.

At a special meeting to conduct the election, seven panch members, Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar, Dr Sunita Borkar, Girish Pillai, Arish Kadar, Govind Lamani, Nandini Dessai and Succorin Vales were present for the meeting, while four Panch members, Narayan Naik, Tulshidas Naik, Satish Padvalkar and Kavita Kamal remained absent.

Nicholas Quadros from the Mormugao BDO presided over the election.

The newly elected Deputy Sarpanch said that former sarpanch Girish Pillai and Roquezinho Vales had helped her become deputy sarpanch of Sancoale.

"We will take up development works and my main priority will be the new Panchayat Ghar,” said Vales.

Meanwhile, Sankalp Mahale was elected unopposed as deputy sarpanch of Bogmalo Panchayat.

According to sources, the new deputy sarpanch was elected following a mutual agreement among the panchas.

"Panch member Arun Naik was deputy sarpanch and Naik had offered his resignation but after a panch tested positive, the election was delayed by over a month.”

“The election was held on Thursday and Mahale was elected unopposed as deputy sarpanch. All panch members were present at the special meeting," said the source.
