A sand bar formation at Colva beach has left the remaining operational beach shacks flooded, causing inconvenience to shack owners, local residents and tourists.

The flooding occurred after rising seawater swept across the beach, submerging shacks and inundating the stretch up to the beach entrance. However, unlike earlier incidents when the water receded naturally, the seawater has remained trapped due to a sand bar formed between the sea and the shoreline.

Large pools of stagnant seawater now surround the beach shacks, leaving beach beds, furniture and other equipment partly submerged. The situation has disrupted business activities and made access difficult for visitors.

A shack operator urged authorities to take immediate steps to drain the stagnant water back into the sea. “The water needs to flow back into the sea. We are ready to create a passage for it, but earlier complaints were filed whenever such attempts were made,” said a local resident linked to the shack business.

He appealed to the Water Resources Department and local authorities to provide urgent relief.

Tourists visiting Colva beach were seen wading through knee-deep stagnant water to reach the shoreline, carrying their footwear and belongings by hand.
